2021: The Year in Pictures
Pandemic, Parties, Politics
Writing this at the end of 2021, it’s hard to escape a sense of déjà vu. Much like the year before, the last twelve months were again dominated by Covid-19 and efforts to bring it in to check. All of my work was in within the United Kingdom, and overwhelmingly in London. But despite those similarities (and acknowledging that at the time of writing the UK once again finds itself in the grip of another winter wave), many of the pictures that stand out to me this time are different. They’re not just of society shutting down, but also of it tentatively opening back up again: of nightclub dance floors alive once more, long-awaited hugs between friends, the return of live sport, serenades for strangers in the street.
It was also been a big year on the personal front. In August, the birth of our son Jae took me away from the news for a little while. But come September I was back to it, if a little sleep deprived.
Thanks to Getty Images and London News Pictures for the opportunities across the year, and also to Canon CPS for their unrivalled support. So here it is: with a few gaps, my favourite photographs from 2021.
Here’s to a happy, healthy, and productive 2022!
Thanks for looking!
